Trump is faced with a decision this week over Jerusalem’s status.
The United States has been notified by the Palestinian authority of its opposition of any plan by the US to move its embassy to Jerusalem or recognising the city as the capital of Israel.
The Islamic body said in a statement: "If the United States takes the step of recognising Jerusalem as the so-called capital of Israel, we unanimously recommend holding a meeting at the level of council of foreign ministers followed by an Islamic summit as soon as possible.”
Jerusalem’s status is one of the most contentious issues of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict of many years.

Recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has been an issue that most of the international community shy away from, United States inclusive, until recently when Trump deviated from the norm.
In a statement by Palestinian deputy prime minister, Ziad Abu Amr, he informed US consul general, Donald Blome, that it is unacceptable to move the American embassy to Jerusalem or recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Amr said such move by the US would be disrespectful and contrary to the role of the US as a mediator and sponsor of the peace process. It added that do so disqualifies the United States from this role and closes every door to continuing a serious peace process.
NAIJ.com had previously reported that Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser had said the president was weighing his options on whether to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital or to proceed immediately in moving the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city.
"The president is going to make his decision. He is still looking at a lot of different facts," Kushner said at an event hosted by the Brookings Institution, a Washington think-tank.
