The police in Ebonyi state on Thursday, February 22, said they arrested two men with guns and other dangerous weapons at a rally in front of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat, Premium Times reports.
NAIJ.com gathered that the arrest was made at a solidarity rally staged by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Ebonyi state chapter, led by Onyeoma Kelechi.
It was learnt that the two suspects, who the police spokesperson, Loveth Odah, confirmed their arrest, were already in the crowd when they were spotted by police officers.

NAPPS staged the rally to endorse Governor David Umahi for a second term in 2019
The police spokesperson said: “As the rally was going on at PDP Secretariat, two boys were arrested there. They both hail from Mgbo in Ohaukwu council area of Ebonyi state; they were arrested with locally made pistols. For that, the police began searching everybody to know if we could recover more guns."

Odah expressed displeasure over the proliferation of firearms in the state as the 2019 election approaches, and called on people to be vigilant in their environment, adding that the security of lives and property would be ensured by the police.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Ogun state police command recovered 15 pump action guns and 14 locally made pistols from suspected criminals whose offences included armed robbery, kidnapping, impersonation, cultism, car snatching and ritual killing.
The police made the disclosure on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, when it paraded the suspects at the command’s headquarters at Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The state's commissioner of police, Ahmed Iliyasu, said the suspects were arrested from various locations in the state in an operation tagged Criminals Mop Up.
