- Prosecutors demanded a 30-year prison term for the impeached president
- Park's trial began in May 2017 and a verdict is expected before April 2018
South Korean prosecutors on Tuesday, February 27, sought a 30-year prison sentence for former president Park Geun-hye who was impeached in 2017.
Park is standing trial for alleged bribery, abuse of power and other crimes in a groundbreaking corruption case that marked a stunning fall from grace for the country’s first female leader.
She was dismissed in March 2017 after being impeached but denied wrongdoing, Channel News Asia reports.

NAIJ.com gathered that the prosecution's recommendation came two weeks after Choi Soon-sil, a close friend of Park who was at the centre of the scandal, was jailed for 20 years for taking bribes from "chaebol", or conglomerates, including electronics powerhouse Samsung and retail giant Lotte.
The prosecutors are also reportedly seeking a 118.5 billion won (91 million pounds) fine.
One of the persecutors said: "(Park) brought a national crisis by letting a person who has never been involved in state management rule the country.
"She and Choi took tens of billions of won in bribes and yet denied her crimes and obstructed efforts to establish the truth."
However, a lawyer representing ex-president Park said he was requesting clemency as Park had tried her hardest "day and night" as president.
