The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday, August 29, presented a certificate of return to the senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District Andrew Uchendu.
The certificate of return was presented to Uchendu by the national commissioner of INEC in-charge of south-south May Agbamuche-Mbu at the commission's headquarters in Abuja.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that a Uchendu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) became the Senator representing the district after an Appeal Court upheld the ruling of the Rivers state House of Assembly election petition.

The petition which was upheld by the Assembly sacked the former Senator George Sekibo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The tribunal in its ruling held that Uchendu earned majority of lawful votes cast in the legislative rerun election held in Rivers state in December 2016.
The court led by a three-man panel of judges also ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return from Sekibo.
The court further ordered that the certificate of return be handed over to the APC candidate Uchendu.

Also reacting to the tribunal's verdict, Sekibo said there were attempts by some lawmakers to frustrate his legal rights.
He also he had every right to appeal ruling made by the tribunal.
