The head of the US Congress delegation to Nigeria, Christopher, has declared the readiness of the US to support the efforts of the Nigerian government in defeating Boko Haram.

Speaking during an assessment visit to the Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri on Tuesday August 29, the lawmaker said his visit was designed to get a first-hand assessment of the performance of the military, Daily Trust reports.
Christopher said the visit will enable him understand the challenges facing the Nigerian army in the fight against the insurgents.
He said: “I am pleased to head the Delegation of the U.S. Congress; three Senators and three House members to come and hear about the hard work of the military in the Northeast of Nigeria.
“The US is strongly supporting the hard work of the military in combating terrorism and we are glad for the opportunity to know how we can support Nigeria in combating terrorism.”

Theatre commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, welcomed the visit of the US lawmakers to the Theatre Command.
Attahiru said the visit would strengthen the relationship between the Nigerian government and the US.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon has informed the US Congress of the sale of 12 Super Tucano A-29 ground attack aircraft and weapons to Nigeria to fight the Boko Haram sect in the northern part of Nigeria.
According to Reuters, the Pentagon communicated the sale of the 12 ground attack aircraft valued at $593m (N181bn) to the US Congress on Monday August 28.
