- But they qualified for the round of 16 tie thanks to their 3-0 first leg victory
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has blasted his players for their lackluster performance against Swedish club Ostersunds FK in the Europa League match on Thursday night, February 22.
The Gunners were defeated 2-1 by the Swedish minnows, but progressed to the last of 16 tie in the 2018 Europa League despite their defeat in Sweden thanks to their 3-0 in their first leg match.
Wenger who is under serious pressure at the Emirates Stadium has now expressed disappointment for his wards to have lost against unheralded opponents.
“In the first half we were in trouble and danger because we were complacent, not focused. We were open when we lost the ball and had no ideas when we had the ball. That’s why we were in trouble.
“We prepared in a serious way. But you have external circumstances - like the fact we won the first leg 3-0 and we have a big game on Sunday - and people subconsciously think they just have to turn up to win.
“But it doesn’t work like that. We played against a good side.
“We have seen in the FA Cup many times upsets like that. We were not at the level we demanded.” Wenger was quoted to have said by Mirror.
