Ibrahim Idris, the inspector general of police, has stated that the Nigeria Police Force would use the radio and television stations it intends to launch, to tackle the incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the country, Vanguard reports.
Idris made his comment during the inauguration of the 16-member board of the Nigeria Police Broadcasting Service (NPBS) in Abuja, the nations’ capital.

NAIJ.com gathers that the IGP disclosed that the communication outfits will also include an online platform and Police Emergency Command and Control Communication Center, when it becomes operational.
According to Idris, as main areas of concern, these various facilities would handle general security information on air, land and sea, including homeland security policing, boarder policing and airport policing.
Idris gave the assurance that the NPBS will employ effective communication to police the nation, and stated that criminal activities would be curbed with the help of Nigerians assisting the police.
He stated: “We will tackle security challenges such as terrorism, oil bunkering, ethnic tension, herders/farmers clashes through the use of our radio and television network.
“It will enable the police to tell its story and set the record straight by telling positive stories and correcting distorted information about the police.
“It will be used to build community relations and enhance positive relations with members of the public and also advance the community policing course of the Nigeria Police Force.”
The police chief stressed that the NPBS was established for the advancement of the NPF, and not for making money.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris, said the police had taken steps to resolve the crisis in Benue state.
Idris said the police began dialogues with herdsmen and farmers with a view to restoring peace in the state.
Speaking at the launch of his book titled: "Security and Justice: The pathway for peace and reconciliation in Nigeria", Idris said the Benue state police command had also established 15 units within the state to curb possible outrage or reprisals.
