Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been named the Uefa Champions League player of the week for his heroic performance in his side’s goalless draw against Sevilla on Wednesday night.
The 27-year-old beat Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller, Chelsea midfielder, Willian and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Frederico Santos to the award after polling 48% of the total votes after the match.
And the Spaniard, who has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford pulled eight saves and two clearances to ensure the Red Devils avoid defeat in that fixture.
Brazilian forward, Willian was voted the second best player of the week, after scoring Chelsea’s lone goal in the Blues’ 1-1 draw against Barcelona at the Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old also stood out for Antonio Conte’s side in that fixture, having had about two of his shots being denied by the woodwork before finally breaking the deadlock in the 62nd minute to hand his side the lead.
Though, they lost the lead 15 minutes before the end of the match with Lionel Messi scoring his first ever goal against the Premier League side.
Bayern Munich forward, Thomas Muller scored a brace in his side’s 5-0 win over Besiktas to earn his place as the third best player according to votes conducted by Uefa.
Apart from scoring two goals on the night, Muller also assisted Robert Lewandowski’s 5th goal at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night, which means that they are probably going to field their second team to prosecute the second leg in March.
